A Visiting Author in School !
Recently we had an exciting time at Four Oaks when a real life author came into school. Christine Perkins has already written her first successful novel based around the adventures of some pirates and so she came along to talk to the children about the process of how she writes her stories, and how the children can be just as successful.
She spoke to the children about the different stages of writing, editing and publishing, and how you only get better as a writer by taking your time and polishing your ideas again and again. The children were allowed to ask questions of her, and the had the opportunity to order a copy of her book as well. A week later, Christine came back into school with the children's books and signed each copy.
This visit was just another way in which we have been trying to inspire the pupils at Four Oaks to become better writers and increase their Cultural Capital as they journey through their time as a "Four Oaks Pupil". We are in the middle of our Year of Writing and the idea that children can be successful writers as they grow up and head off to secondary school, and then into adult life, is really important to us all.
Have a look below to see Christine reading parts of her story and talking to the children.
