European Day of Languages24 September 2025 (by admin) |
We have an exciting day lined up tomorrow!
The European Day of Languages (EDL) is celebrated across Europe on the 26th of September every year (we will celebrate together in school on Thursday 25th September). It aims to promote the rich linguistic diversity of Europe and raise awareness of the importance of lifelong language learning for everyone. It was set up by the Council of Europe and was first celebrated in 2001.
However, we will be celebrating all languages spoken in our school, not just European languages. Children are invited to come to school on this day dressed in either their national costume or the colours of their flag. Please feel free to bring anything from home that represents your culture (e.g. photos or books).
There is also another year of the (optional) Great International Bake Off and the rules are simple: bake something with an international theme. It could be a cake or biscuits shaped or decorated to represent a country or language, or a bake that is typical of another country. But remember – it has to taste good!
