Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education) curriculum follows the main core themes of Relationships Education and Health Education which are statutory, and the third non-statutory National Curriculum theme of Living in the Wider World, which covers objectives including finance and money management.

Through PSHE teaching we also aim to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, teamwork, critical thinking and reflection, as well as providing opportunities for SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural) development.

To promote inclusion, we embed the theme of ‘No Outsiders’ with the slogan, ‘We are all different and that is OK’.  Children are taught about the Equality Act 2010 and they are prepared for life in modern Britain.  As a school we also promote British Values ensuring that our children leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. We support the values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

PSHE is taught through discreet lessons but is linked to many curriculum areas and numerous aspects of everyday school life including assemblies. In addition, many objectives may be discussed as and when issues arise. To ensure progression and a spiral curriculum, we also use Jigsaw – the mindful approach to PSHE and the Birmingham RSHE guidance as a structure for our PSHE work.

We provide learning opportunities matched to the individual needs of all children including those who are neuro-diverse and those with special educational needs and disabilities. We also promote the needs and interests of all pupils, irrespective of gender, culture or background and we respect pupils’ unique starting points by providing learning that is suitable to their level, taking into account their age, maturity and how emotionally secure they are.
