The Olympic Flame at Four Oaks
Last Friday the Olympic Flame visited Four Oaks Primary as it made its way around the schools of the Four Oaks Area. Then, this Thursday, Olympic Torch bearer Ben Smolden came to Four Oaks bringing his genuine Olympic Torch with him.
Twenty years ago Ben had a rugby accident culminating in him being injured and becoming paralysed from the waist down. He was chosen as an Olympic Torch bearer because of his charity work and all the amazing work he has continued to do at Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club, training young rugby players and showing them the benefits of physical activity.
Ben talked to the whole school and told all the children about what he had to do when he took the torch on his leg of the national relay. Four Oaks Primary then presented Ben with two tickets to the London Paralympic Games and a donation to put towards his charity work. The children then had the chance to have their photograph taken with Ben and the Olympic Torch. Why not click on the thumnails below to view the proud children !
