  Design and Technology

Design and Technology at Four Oaks is taught within the Creative Curriculum. Pupils at all stages within school are taught knowledge and skills that can be applied to making products for specific purposes.

The curriculum is designed to give pupils opportunities to develop skills in designing and making food products, textiles products, structures and mechanisms (which will at times incorporate using electrical components).
It is an ideal springboard for the development of collaborative working and encourages evaluation of the pupils own ideas and products alongside manufactured products, and those of their peers. All Design and Technology tasks are set in as real a context as possible with the emphasis being on the products having a user and a purpose. It is how the final product performs that is the essential criteria and not how it looks aesthetically !

Design and Technology can give pupils essential skills for the future as they develop ideas for themselves and share expertise with others. We have a close link with Birmingham City University, whose students often come in to work with our pupils !
